In the middle of the desert, a solipsistic Japanese-American woman, along with her elderly and paralysed friend Barbara, runs the Desert Rose Cafe. Things liven up with the arrival of a mafia henchman (whose boss is hiding out at a nearby ranch), a battered Japanse man (who turns out to be a terrific chef, but who also triggers Barbara's memories of internment during WWII), and an attack on the mob boss' camp.

For the "Festival of good ideas" that is to take place in their residential quarter the musically enthusiastic young Bum wants to rehearse a music show along with his friends. With pans, cans, hooters and other junk they make music. Some adults get angry about that. Others like the second-hand dealer Dohlenei and Mr. Kling from the symphony orchestra help the children to make their fantastic idea come true.

2023年3月に死去した坂本龍一が自ら指揮・演奏を担った2014年のオーケストラ公演の模様が映画化。同公演は、YMO時代の名曲をはじめとして「Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence（戦場のメリークリスマス）」「ラストエンペラー」などの代表作、映画音楽など、坂本の多彩な楽曲が東京フィルハーモニー交響楽団の演奏によって披露されたもの。映画では、その模様が5.1chサラウンドで再構築され、臨場感のある音楽体験として観客に届けられる。

Comedian and classically trained musician, Bill Bailey joins forces with the brilliantly versatile BBC Concert Orchestra and musical maestro Anne Dudley, one of the UK’s most celebrated composers and arrangers. The show, recorded at London’s magnificent Royal Albert Hall, is Bill’s own uniquely hilarious and irreverent guide to the sounds, styles, and instruments of the orchestra, with a wide and eclectic range of subjects, including music for 70’s cop shows, sci-fi films, horror movies, news themes, plus some of Bill’s own songs re-imagined for an orchestra, and including Anne’s own specially written new works.
